"Ay, sir; to be honest, as
this world goes, is to be one man picked out of
ten thousand."
By William
Finnerty
Great, REALLY GREAT, but
...
::::::::
While I (as always)
feel extremely grateful to all those who take to
the streets in peaceful and lawful ways, to
protest against major outbreaks of government and
corporate wrongdoing, my fear is that such
protests will never (by themselves) be enough to
remedy the basic set of problems involved: having
due regard for the kind of people who are doing --
and the many who in one way or another are helping
and supporting!! -- the wrongdoing in this
particular case, and in many others like it all
around the world.
I can very easily
understand the viewpoint that "weak governance" is
playing a major role.
However, there is
also the alternative perception which, from the
viewpoint of the wrongdoers, would claim that it
is "strong governance" (albeit of the completely
wrong kind as far as I am concerned) which is, on
an ongoing basis, winning all (or almost all) the
important battles for the tyrannous despots, plutocrats, and
kleptocrats (etcetera) who are
indulging themselves with impunity in the
extremely serious and cunningly well-hidden
criminal activities concerned.
Unless the
"starting place" of the centuries old power-source which is at
the present time driving, sustaining, and
strengthening such "strong governance" can be
honestly sought out, and honestly faced up to --
by sufficiently large numbers of honest people --
and successfully tackled by the open and honest
use of the FULL range of all peaceful and lawful
means available to them, I have great difficulty
in seeing how there can ever be a happy ending for
humanity generally (i.e. humanity as a
whole)?
Then, and to add to the already
large set of reasonably obvious difficulties
involved, somewhere in the highly complex
chemistry of the human brain there also lurks the
subtle and seemingly much more difficult to deal
with hurdle which Shakespeare's Hamlet pointed out
well over 400 years ago:
"Ay, sir; to be
honest, as this world goes, is to be one man
picked out of ten thousand."

Dishonesty:
The Achilles' Heel of Humanity?
An
Achilles' heel is a deadly weakness which
exists in the presence of great overall strength,
and it can potentially lead to complete downfall;
or, often in tense, troublesome, and worrying
ways, right to the very edge of complete
downfall.
"One in ten thousand" suggests
that as little as 0.01% of humanity is honest, and
that 99.99% is dishonest?
If true -- and in
many everyday situations relating to social,
political, legal, medical, religious, educational,
and financial issues (for example), I suspect this
statistic of Hamlet's really might be reasonably
accurate? -- then it is little wonder perhaps that
civilization still struggles with so many major
conflicts (and closely related
problems)?
Are we all (or almost all of us,
i.e. 99.99% of us), with varying degrees of
success, and at enormous expense to ourselves
overall (i.e. as a species), spending most of our
time trying (in one way or another) to deceive
each other regarding such major problems; and, for
some of the time at least, deceiving ourselves in
very significant ways as well perhaps?
And,
why is it that the rest of the animal world --
apart from the cuckoo family group perhaps --
appears to be much less afflicted by such
dishonest tendencies?
Are we somehow,
because of certain deep-seated fears (or whatever)
which we are largely unaware of possibly, misusing
our additional brain-power? And, avoidably maybe,
through the repeated use of poor-quality personal
choices which we make each day as individuals,
foolishly using (or wasting) far too much of our
extra brain capacity for the purpose of supporting
corruption-ridden, greed-ridden, crime-ridden, and
power-mad people (and their socially malicious
pursuits)? And which, consequentially, may be
producing much in the way of completely avoidable
pain and suffering, injury, illness, and
death?
"Ah how shameless - the way
these mortals blame the gods. From us alone,
they say, come all their miseries, yes, But
they themselves, with their own reckless
ways, Compound their pains beyond their proper
measure."
Homer (Circa 9th century
BC, Odyssey - Book I, lines 37 to 40).
The
3,000 or so year old observation just above also
seems to suggest that we human beings may be very
"slow learners" as far as seeing the hidden
dangers in certain core-issue social matters are
concerned: such as, for example, with regard to
the present red-rotten-with-corruption-and-crime
SOURCE of our
"money supply": which, as an
UNELECTED and completely
out-of-control group as far as genuine democracy is
concerned, now appears to be virtually
all-powerful in terms of controlling and bullying
all (or almost all) of the governments of the
whole
world?

Mention was made
yesterday (i.e. January 12th 2011) of this
particular Diary Entry in an e-mail sent to
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne
MP, and the recipient list included a
few dozen or so of his UK parliamentary
colleagues.

Allowing
for the enormous and growing amount of crime,
corruption, and cover-ups -- as in
"criminal dishonesty" -- which is believed
to form a major part of the seemingly (so far)
impossible to resolve IMPUNITY problem
referred to above, and as can be seen at the www
address just above, the recipient list also
included a number of senior police
officers.

New
Book Titled "Treasure Islands" (By Nicholas
Shaxson)
"At last, a readable – indeed
gripping – book which explains the nuts and bolts
of tax havens. More importantly, it lays bare the
mechanism that financial capital has been using to
stay in charge: capturing government policy-making
around the world, shaking off such irritants as
democracy and the rule of law (PARTICULARLY CONSTITUTIONAL
LAW!!), and making sure that
suckers like you and me pay for its operators’
opulent lifestyles."
