Whatever about the constitutionality of the Bill itself (which now becomes "Law" with immediate effect presumably?), I believe it is 100% “repugnant to the Constitution” of the Republic of Ireland for President Michael D Higgins and Chief Justice Susan Denham to have -- between the two of them -- failed to ensure that the "final" say regarding this HIGHLY CONTENTIOUS abortion legislation be given to, and left to, "the people" of the Republic of Ireland, for them to make the "final" decision on using a national referendum specifically for that purpose: as I believe is what is LEGALLY required under the very straightforward and easy to understand terms of Article 6.1 of Bunreacht na hEireann.

Even if somebody, or some group of people, now challenges the constitutionality of this new law in our Courts of law, it will be members of the Judicial Branch of the Republic of Ireland's Government, i.e. the Supreme Court Judges, that will UNLAWFULLY (in my opinion) get to have the "final" say in the whole matter: and NOT, repeat NOT, "the people" of the REPUBLIC of Ireland; "Republic" that is, as in "government of the people, by the people, for the people".

Article 6.1 of Bunreacht na hEireann -- the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland, and as such the SUPREME LAW of the Republic of Ireland -- VERY CLEARLY states:

"All powers of government, legislative, executive and judicial, derive, under God, from the people, whose right it is to designate the rulers of the State and, in final appeal, to decide all questions of national policy, according to the requirements of the common good."

Also necessary to keep in mind, is the fact that under the terms of Article 12.8 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland there exists the necessity for all presidents of the Republic of Ireland to make the following declaration in public BEFORE they can become president:

"In the presence of Almighty God I Michael D Higgins, do solemnly and sincerely promise and declare that I will maintain the Constitution of Ireland and uphold its laws, that I will fulfil my duties faithfully and conscientiously in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and that I will dedicate my abilities to the service and welfare of the people of Ireland. May God direct and sustain me."

Similarly for Republic of Ireland Chief Justice Susan Denham under the terms of Article 34.5.1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland:

"In the presence of Almighty God I, Susan Denham, do solemnly and sincerely promise and declare that I will duly and faithfully and to the best of my knowledge and power execute the office of Chief Justice (or as the case may be) without fear or favour, affection or ill-will towards any man, and that I will uphold the Constitution and the laws. May God direct and sustain me."

Using the link provided just below, I have looked a few times (during the past few hours) at a number of MSM (Main Stream Media) reports from around the world on the news that President Michael D Higgins has now signed the "Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013" into law. So far, I have not found ANY mention ANYWHERE of Article 6.1 of the Republic of Ireland's Constitution, in ANY of the several reports that I have so far looked at.
