One of these who fled Ireland during the above-mentioned "famine period" was a
gifted young man named Patrick S. Gilmore
(from Ballygar in East County Galway), who had a great natural talent for music
it seems, and who was destined to later become a "Glen Miller" type hero of the
American Civil War.
