CDTI also respect and admire Maura
Harrington.
At the same time though, I would absolutely
hate to see her die as a result of the hunger strike she is
now on.
I'm wondering if she could now usefully decide
to introduce a "pause" in her hunger strike at this stage:
until -- and if -- the Solitaire returns to the immediate
area?
Might it also be the case that Maura would not
feel the need for such desperate action (as an individual
human being) if more people came out onto the streets of
Ireland to peacefully protest against the actions of Shell
& our Government regarding this huge national asset;
which, according to Article 10 of Bunreacht na hEireann
(Constitution of the Republic of Ireland) "belong to the
State": i.e. the People of the Republic of Ireland -- NOT
Shell, and NOT our Government? Where is our legal profession
regarding this hugely important national issue?
It
seems to me that all too often in these kinds of conflicts too
few individuals end up having to do too much on behalf of too
many? More Irish people, many more perhaps, need to put their
shoulders to the wheel -- if the unusually valuable
individuals of Maura Harrington's kind are to stay
alive?
"Mura gcuirfidh tú san earrach ní bhainfidh tú
san fhómhar."
("If the People don't sow in the spring, they
cannot expect to reap in the autumn.")
"Is olc an
chearc nach scríobann di féin."
(It's a very poor quality
hen that won't scratch for itself.)
Anyway, my hope is
that all will yet be well; that Maura will live and be
triumphant in her extremely important campaign; and that the
set of principles she is at present fighting for will NEVER
die: Shell or no Shell.
