With the coming "Heritage Week 2005 (Ireland)" in mind, which will be held during the 4th to the 11th of September, a new website has recently been started at the Internet address provided below - which is in memory of King Ollamh Fodhla.

"Heritage Week" is a week-long celebration of "who we are and where we’ve come from"; and, it is part of "European Heritage Days", a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union.

According to the "The Annals of Ireland by the Four Masters", completed in 1632, King Ollamh Fodhla reigned over Ireland for the 40 year period between 1317 - 1277 BC.

One of several curious facts concerning King Ollamh Fodhla is that he appears to have been completely "written out" of standard Irish history books during the past several generations, even though he is probably the most important - by far - of all the kings of Ireland.

The reason for this strange omission is not known.

Although few people appear to be aware of the fact (at the present time), King Ollamh Fodhla is very closely linked with the Hill of Tara, and with Brehon Law - a legal system which has been described as "the oldest and perhaps most humane collection of laws in Europe".

Partly for the purpose of trying to ensure that very ancient heritage sites in the Hill of Tara area get the attention and protection they deserve, especially in connection with the planned new "M3 Toll Road Project" - which may soon (possibly?) result in the construction of a major new motorway through the Tara / Skreen Valley - a varied selection of text references relating to King Ollamh Fodhla has been compiled and placed at the following new website:
http://www.kingollamhfodhla.com/

Among other things, it is hoped that all archaeologists, and indeed everyone involved with the planned M3 motorway project, may wish to keep the above mentioned information regarding King Ollamh Fodhla in mind.

A copy of this e-mail will later be placed at the following Internet address:
http://www.kingollamhfodhla.com/EuropeanHeritageDaysIreland2005.htm

Some may find it useful to know that translation facilities for several of the most commonly used languages have been placed at the Internet address immediately above.
